The image is composed of several shots, mainly one for the man, one for the landscape with all the trees, one photo with the dramatic skies (taken at midnight once, with long shutter) and one photo of pure white snow to make the almost invisible texture as a top layer.
So roughly what I did was inserting the guy as a layer by careful selection of course. Then burning and dodging a little bit on him (me actually) to make him better match the lightning. Also I made sure his legs sort of faded into the background. I did a lot of burning and curves/levels adjustments to the background layer (the landscape) to make it darker as if it was night or early morning. Pasted the skies-layer on top it all and selecting a blending mode (think it was hard light or overlay), but erasing the parts overlapping the trees and such. And as you can see I've done some burning all around the border to make it look a little old-style photo.
This is of course a very rough story of what went into this picture, but hope this was of some help..
